IDE Earth exists to make the Earth Operating System accessible as a creative, civic and practical design environment.
Its core objective is to help people Vibe Code The Future: to move from imagination to prototype, from prototype to practice, and from practice to shared institutions that can be tested, improved and governed by the communities they affect.
IDE Earth is not just an IDE for software. It is an IDE for projects, places, campaigns, assemblies, mutuals, learning communities, ecological interventions, media experiments and new forms of public life. It treats code as one material among many. A future may be coded in software, but it may also be coded in rituals, legal agreements, maps, wikis, audio walks, trust graphs, learning passports, card games, governance patterns, community budgets and shared stories.
1. Lower the Threshold for Participation 1. Create a common Workspace for Imagination 1. Make Futures Testable 1. Support Community Ownership 1. Protect Privacy 1. Make Integration Humane 1. Support Guides 1. Make Local Work part of Planetary Learning 1. Make Publishing part of the Design Process 1. Cultivate Playful Seriousness
In the context of the Hitchhiker Campaign, IDE Earth becomes the workshop where people gather around Zaphod not only to support a campaign, but to prototype what the campaign means. It is where people can design the clubs, gardens, guides, games, assemblies, media channels, safety systems, mutuals and stories that make the campaign real.
IDE Earth therefore has a simple but ambitious purpose. 1. It helps people turn shared imagination into working prototypes. 1.It helps working prototypes become governed projects. 1. It helps governed projects become part of a living commons. 11. And it helps the living commons learn how to build the future without waiting for permission.
